Red Hat Satellite 6.18 is now generally available (GA), with new AI and system monitoring and management capabilities to streamline IT operations and simplify Linux administration. This release continues to build on our commitment to providing a unified management solution across on-premise, hybrid cloud, and public cloud environments.

Key updates in Red Hat Satellite 6.18 focus on three areas: AI-powered tools, system health, and content management features.

Enhance efficiency with offline AI

Satellite 6.18 introduces new AI-powered features designed to streamline Linux administration. These functionalities aim to increase efficiency for all IT professionals, regardless of your experience level.

The new model context protocol (MCP) server, released as a technology preview, allows you to query Satellite for information using natural language. This eliminates the need for specific query syntax, or significant manual effort. You can efficiently generate reports on patching requirements, categorize patches, and filter lists by environment with a natural language query to an MCP client connected to the MCP server.

The command-line assistant, first introduced in Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 10 and launched earlier in 2025, offers natural language answers directly from the command line. Included with Satellite 6.18 is the developer preview offline version of the command-line assistant. This offline command-line assistant is packaged and runs as containers, enabling local queries without the need for external network connectivity. This is particularly beneficial for organizations in sectors such as government, finance, and industrial control, where cloud access is restricted.

Expanded management capabilities on-premises

Satellite 6.18 continues to deliver the value of Red Hat Lightspeed (formerly Red Hat Insights) to disconnected ("air-gapped") environments. These services assess your RHEL environments to help you proactively identify and remediate threats, avoid outages, unplanned downtime, and mitigate potential compliance and other risks

The advisor service, previously released in tech preview in May 2025, is now generally available. Offering a broad assessment of RHEL infrastructure health, the advisor service covers four major areas: Availability, stability, performance, and system security. Equipped with information and context to plan recommended changes for future maintenance windows, you can better prioritize potential issues.

The vulnerability service is now available on-premises in technology preview. The vulnerability service helps you move beyond vulnerability scanners by using Red Hat’s expert knowledge to identify systems at risk for vulnerabilities and named threats, including viewing and triaging alerts in the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database. You can review detailed information about CVEs, including the CVE ID, description, publish date, severity, and CVSS score on-premises with your Satellite subscription.

Improved subscription reporting

Satellite 6.18 includes improvements with regards to data gathering and reporting. You can now configure Satellite to use minimal data collection when you upload host data to Red Hat Lightspeed. Minimal reports exclude host names, IP addresses, and installed packages and only include the minimal payload to power the subscriptions service. Additionally, you can generate local reports with the foreman_rh_cloudplugin, and asynchronously submit them to the Red Hat Hybrid Cloud Console.

Optimized content delivery

Satellite 6.18's new content management features make it easier to manage RHEL infrastructure in complex, disconnected, or geographically distributed environments. With Satellite, you can consistently manage across on-premises, hybrid cloud, and public cloud environments with support for RHEL 10, image mode for RHEL, and modern content types like Flatpak.

Building on Flatpak support introduced in 6.17, Satellite 6.18 now offers WebUI support. This provides a simplified solution for provisioning software to desktop applications, regardless of their underlying programming languages, build tools, toolkits, or frameworks.

Rolling content views provide immediate, synchronized content without the need for traditional publishing or promotions of content views. As content becomes available, it is synchronized to the Satellite server, and rolling content views immediately provide updates.

Certificate support for container access automatically provides access to Satellite container registries after a RHEL system is registered.
