Anthem is the largest for-profit managed health care company in the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association. In 2019, Anthem set a goal to grow a new pharmacy business with artificial intelligence in the cloud. Needing a foundation of security to meet audit, compliance and privacy requirements, Anthem chose an AWS-first approach for their hybrid and multi-cloud strategy along with Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform. In the span of less than one year, Anthem moved 50+ applications from legacy mainframe to Red Hat OpenShift environment while embracing in microservices style architectures, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), and a DevOps mentality. Through the partnership with Red Hat and AWS, Anthem was able to work through challenges and develop a model that has and can be used enable cultural change at speed, even in the most highly regulated environments.
