We’re pleased to announce that two of Red Hat’s newest solutions, OpenShift and Red Hat Software Collections, have been recognized as innovative technologies by the DeveloperWeek 2014 Innovator Awards. OpenShift won Top Innovator for Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) while Red Hat Software Collections took home Top Innovator for Coding Environments – fantastic news for two of the newest members of the Red Hat product family.

The DeveloperWeek Innovator Awards recognize emerging and innovative technologies, all less than a year old, in 13 categories, including PaaS, Mobile Development and Coding Environments, and are voted on by DeveloperWeek attendees and followers. The Innovator Awards are an extension of the DeveloperWeek, a full-stack developer conference and festival where more than 2,500 developers entrepreneurs build new applications and add-ons and stay current on more than 100 dev tools, technologies and languages.

OpenShift’s three-tiered platform offering allows developers a flexible, scalable and open PaaS platform where they can quickly code and deploy to fit changing development needs:

  • Community upstream platform OpenShift Origin, available on GitHub for immediate download, includes support for eight language runtimes and data layers.
  • Public PaaS via OpenShift Online, which launched in June 2013, delivers a public cloud application development and hosting platform that automates the provisioning, management and scaling of applications.
  • Private PaaS OpenShift Enterprise 2.0, available December 2013, enables enterprise datacenters to deliver applications faster while meeting the business’s ever-growing application demands.

Launched in September 2013, Red Hat Software Collections delivers the newest, most stable versions of open source runtime components compatible with current Red Hat solutions, released on a lifecycle that is separate from Red Hat Enterprise Linux. By providing a more frequent release cadence of these developer-oriented technologies, Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscribers now have access to rapid language and database innovation while continuing to enjoy the stability of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform.

Again, congratulations to both the OpenShift and Red Hat Software Collections teams!
