In military operations, having all the data in the world doesn’t matter if you can’t use it to maximize use of your resources and firepower where and when they’re most needed. There is no shortage of technology in the Department of Defense (DoD). However, there is a major gap when it comes to the tools that support data-driven decisions for the military teams in the field.
Taking action on data collected in edge environments—far from core datacenters—requires sending raw data collected in the field back to command and then waiting for a decision. The time required for data collection, transmission, processing, and decision-making gives peer adversaries a major advantage.
