It’s hard to believe Devoxx is just around the corner, but here we are putting the final touches on preparations for the event. Once again, Devoxx looks to be one of the biggest Java conferences in Europe this year and we’re excited to return to Belgium for a great week of fun, learning and networking with peers from around the world. The event will take place Nov. 11-15, 2013 at the Metropolis Business Center in Antwerp.

Red Hat has sponsored and participated in the Devoxx conference for a number of years, and 2013 is no different. In addition to returning as a sponsor, we are scheduled to lead or participate in 14 sessions (see below for a full list of sessions we are participating in). For many returning attendees, we’ve also built a reputation for unveiling notable news and developments during the conference. Last year, Red Hat’s Mark Little, Ph.D., vice president of middleware engineering, and Ray Ploski, director of developer programs and strategy, unveiled the first-round results of our election to identify a new name for the JBoss Application Server community project (WildFly was ultimately chosen).

This year, we’re proud to announce the 1.0 release of Ceylon, a new programming language designed specifically for writing large programs in teams. The language was designed to run anywhere a Java 7 Virtual Machine (JVM) is available and offers a number of advantages over Java, including compilation into Java bytecode or JavaScript, Mixins and a powerful type system.

The project is led by Gavin King, senior consulting software engineer, Red Hat. Gavin is the creator of Hibernate, a popular object/relational persistence solution for Java, and the Seam Framework, an application framework for enterprise Java. We hope to see you next week and encourage you to stop by one of our sessions!
