Recently, Red Hat and Oracle announced our expanded collaboration to Bring Red Hat OpenShift to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. We’re pleased to announce Red Hat OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with Virtual Machines (VMs) is available for Developer Preview.
With Red Hat OpenShift 4.14, you can deploy OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with VMs. You deploy Red Hat OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with VMs using the Assisted Installer for connected deployments or the Agent-based Installer for restricted networks, which is a network environment where cluster nodes cannot access the internet.

This Developer Preview release contains functionality that Red Hat is considering for possible inclusion into supported versions in order to collect feedback about the functionality. Developer Preview also means the feature is not fully tested by Red Hat and is not intended to run in production environments or for production use cases. In addition, this capability is provided to allow early adopters and integrators to explore and interact with new capabilities in advance of their possible inclusion in a Red Hat product offering. Additional information about the Developer Preview support scope can be found here.
The Red Hat OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with VMs deployment leverages the external platform, which is a new configuration for Red Hat OpenShift that allows deep infrastructure customization. The external platform provides partners, such as Oracle, the opportunity to run their own components for infrastructure management. With Red Hat OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with VMs, Oracle initially provides the following two integrations:
- Oracle Cloud Controller Manager (CCM) to provide Oracle Cloud Infrastructure awareness to OpenShift by embedding cloud-specific control logic.
- Oracle Container Storage Interface (CSI) for leveraging native Oracle Cloud Infrastructure storage to enable dynamic persistent storage provisioning.
Check out our demo for how to deploy Red Hat OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with VMs.
Note that Red Hat OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure requires the use of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) certified Oracle Cloud Infrastructure shapes (instance types). With this new provider, you use your own Red Hat OpenShift subscription to deploy Red Hat OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with VMs. To check out Red Hat OpenShift on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with VMs, complete this form to request access.
