We are excited to announce a new book for developers starting their journey with Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), written by two members of Red Hat’s OpenShift team, Steve Pousty and Katie Miller. "Getting Started with OpenShift" is a tool for application developers who are newcomers to PaaS and impatient to see its benefits. It will be a big help to developers who are passionate about writing applications and code, but want to avoid being bogged down in the details of administering servers. Steve and Katie’s expertise in web application development will guide readers through the initial process of building and deploying an application on OpenShift by Red Hat, paving the way for more advanced topics, such as backup and configuration.
After hosting numerous open source workshops, OpenShift meetups, and developer talks, Steve and Katie decided to create a book to teach users just how easy it is to develop applications on OpenShift. Using a Python application as the instructional example, the methods in the book are also transferable to Java, Node.js, PHP, Ruby and Perl. "Getting Started with OpenShift" will teach readers how to create their own applications in the cloud, modify and deploy their code, and keep their applications up and running. It also includes an introduction to Linux development for non-Linux users, for those new to this powerful open source operating system used to run OpenShift.
Members of the OpenShift team will be handing out copies of "Getting Started with OpenShift" at this year’s Red Hat Summit and various DevNation talks, or you can download the book for free, directly from the OpenShift website.
