Editor's note: Migration Analytics is no longer supported. If you have any questions, please contact migrate@redhat.com.
Do you know where your workloads are, their current state and what it would take to modernize them? The answer is likely no. That's why Red Hat is unveiling the Red Hat migration analytics service, currently in beta. Here's what the service offers, and how it can help you with inventory, migration suggestions and more.
Rationale
An organization’s path to digital transformation is often complex and multi-faceted, frequently requiring technology integration across all areas of the business. Additionally, it requires a fundamental shift in how the organization delivers value to customers and end users. This necessitates an inventory of their applications, infrastructure and related processes in an effort to reduce costs, modernize environments and maximize agility.
For instance, most large organizations run thousands of workloads either on-premise or in the cloud. Some workloads are highly strategic and directly responsible for competitive advantage, while many others are internal legacy workloads that are critical but do not help establish market differentiation. It is important to review the current state of workloads and make decisions to decide which should be modernized and which should be left as-is while running in a more cost-effective manner.
To take on this process, customers most likely need an in-depth IT inventory to conduct analysis while minimizing time and resources. This will also require prioritization guidance, project plans and budget calculations without an army of third-party consultants equipped with endless slide decks and analyses.
An analytical solution
To help overcome these challenges, Red Hat is pleased to introduce the Red Hat migration analytics service. This new service, now available as a beta offering on cloud.redhat.com/beta, helps provide customers with the intelligence they need to make these strategic decisions. By running a free inventory appliance in your environment, the service provides insight into total numbers of workloads, where they reside, their present condition and the total level of effort needed to modernize each workload. Users of the beta will also see detailed infrastructure and application inventories, high priority migration targets, estimated migration cost savings and potential migration pitfalls and hazards in their environment.
All of this detail is encapsulated in three immediate reports:
-
Initial savings estimation: A brief report with the main options for migration and the estimated savings that could be achieved.
-
Workload migration summary: A summary of the infrastructure and services found, proposed target platforms and estimations on the feasibility of the different migrations to be performed.
-
Workload migration inventory: A detailed list of workloads with detected flags that need to be considered during the migration process.
Migration analytics service pioneer program
In an effort to provide maximum customer value, while prioritizing functionality for the services’ general availability in 2020, we are also pleased to announce the Red Hat migration analytics service pioneer program. Exclusively designed for proactive Red Hat customers and partners, the pioneer program will help shape the offering’s current and future capabilities by soliciting feedback to:
-
Harden and enhance overall features.
-
Improve detection rules and processes.
-
Explore real-world usage across a variety of use cases and scenarios.
Individuals interested in participating in the Red Hat migration analytics service pioneer program should expect short monthly meetings with Red Hat subject matter experts to explore their end-user observations and experiences. They should also have technical hands-on experience with one or more Red Hat products. This exciting opportunity will give users a chance to play a critical role in the development of a new service that can aid enterprises in their future modernization and migration efforts.
