Red Hat is thrilled to congratulate Knative on its acceptance as a Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) incubating project. This begins a new chapter in the evolution of a leading containerized serverless platform. As one of the co-founders of the Knative project and creators of its sandbox Functions subproject, Red Hat believes that Knative has a bright future as part of the CNCF.

Knative is at the core of Red Hat OpenShift Serverless, providing an enterprise-grade container-based serverless platform, which allows developers to build and run applications without having to worry about managing or scaling servers. By abstracting away the underlying infrastructure, developers are able to spend more of their time providing business value through focusing on writing code and delivering features to business applications.

As a CNCF project, we believe Knative will continue meeting the needs of serverless developers and expanding the universe of serverless applications.  Over the next year, Knative contributors expect to add more flexible data pipelining, internal transport encryption, multi-tenancy support, cold start improvements, event delivery resilience and filters, and a catalog for discovering community-contributed event sources and CLI plugins. The Functions subproject plans to continue working on maturing to a top-level component. The CNCF will help Knative mature and expand its conformance program for the 1.0 Eventing and Serving specifications.
