Each month, we highlight how customers have found success with Red Hat products and solutions on the blog. Our partner ecosystem is behind many customer success stories, and partners are driving open source innovation within their geographical regions as well as the global community.

In this post, we’re featuring an Argentina-based company and the Red Hat products that have helped it modernize services for customers in the United States, Europe and beyond. We also have the opportunity to feature how Red Hat solutions are helping fuel customer success for two partners—a technology provider that’s helping its customers in Ireland, and worldwide, achieve business success, and a gaming market pioneer that’s revolutionizing trillion-dollar industries such as transportation, healthcare and manufacturing.

Exolgan counts on Red Hat to reach its paperless port vision

Exolgan is the largest container terminal in Argentina—serving as the main operator in foreign trade of containerized cargo into and out of the country. Over the last decade, the company has worked to digitize its operations, from eliminating much of its paper-based information transfer to addressing its monolithic application architecture.

To support its shift to digital shipping operations, the company sought to improve integration between its SAP systems and other applications, microservices, data, and third-party solutions.

“We knew Red Hat, a partner of SAP for over 20 years, provided solutions that would help us change our application development methodologies and cut delivery times without compromising on quality,” said Enrique Torlaschi, CIO of Exolgan.

Open_People-Blog-thumbnail-1_0.png Exolgan deployed Red Hat JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) as its new application server, and to improve integration between its internal data sources, external data sources and its SAP solutions, the company implemented Red Hat Fuse, a distributed integration platform.

Combined with Red Hat OpenShift, which helps containerize the company’s key business applications, Red Hat Fuse helps Exolgan design, implement, manage, and scale its integration services to connect everything across its cloud environments—from application programming interfaces (APIs) and data to applications and devices. Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SAP Solutions serves as the operating system foundation for these solutions.

This new architecture supports a range of services that are critical to Exolgan’s digitalization strategy, including a portal for online payments, a real-time cargo tracking application, and a mobile app that simplifies the arrival process at the terminal. The company reports benefits like improved system integration to avoid service downtime, more flexibility and agility to add more services to its platform and enhanced talent acquisition and retention with its innovative reputation.

Exolgan is now looking for new ways to take advantage of the possibilities of SAP technology, including potentially migrating its SAP HANA and SAP SE environments currently running on premise in its datacenter to the cloud, while simultaneously updating to SAP S/4HANA. Red Hat and Version 1: a partnership supporting innovation in Ireland

Europe-based technology and digital transformation provider Version 1 has long-standing partner relationships and deep expertise in each of its partners’ technologies. Its collaboration with Red Hat has grown over the past six years with customers such as the Ireland Department of Transport and the Ireland Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM).

Version 1 joined the Red Hat Solution Provider Program in 2018. While the collaboration between Version 1 and Red Hat may still be relatively new, it has seen a great deal of success. Red Hat was proud to name Version 1 as a 2021 Red Hat Innovation Awards winner for its work with DAFM.

Version 1 was selected by DAFM, its longstanding customer, to create a new platform called Smart Text. The machine learning (ML) text analysis platform categorizes documents, enhances system security, and allows new features to be implemented faster.

In the beginning, the Smart Text solution as a concept was something Version 1 had been working on as part of its Innovation Labs and Smart Action Suite in use internally at the time. Red Hat’s market development fund initiatives helped Version 1 take that, re-platform it and get it to work with Red Hat OpenShift.

Red Hat’s local presence in Ireland has been helpful for Version 1. “Just having somebody local is a great benefit,” said Nick Tarmey, Infrastructure Architect at Version 1. “Having that ability to go and meet face-to-face, do workshops in person, and mobilize people in the company is important.” Local workshops run by Red Hat Ireland have been crucial in engaging Version 1 consultants in learning more about Red Hat OpenShift.

NVIDIA partners with Red Hat to build next generation of computing

NVIDIA is helping enterprise customers adopt graphical processing unit (GPU)-accelerated computing for artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) applications.

NVIDIA developed Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA)—a parallel computing platform and programming model for general computing on GPUs—to simplify the development of GPU-accelerated applications. The framework includes libraries, a toolkit, runtime, and plugins that communicate with the GPU.

Customers who initially wanted to take advantage of running Kubernetes on top of GPUs had to manually write containers for CUDA and all the software needed to run GPU-accelerated applications on Kubernetes. Developers also had to write additional code to tell Kubernetes which nodes contained GPUs. The process was time-consuming and prone to errors, but is now greatly simplified using Red Hat OpenShift.

NVIDIA produced a series of Red Hat OpenShift techniques for CUDA and the software needed by GPU-accelerated applications with guidance from Red Hat. “Working with the Red Hat team, we wrapped all these different plugins up into a single operator, to provide a better way to communicate with the container platform,” said Matt Akins, Business Development Manager, NVIDIA.

When a customer deploys Red Hat OpenShift on top of a server with GPUs, the GPU operator automatically containerizes CUDA and all the software needed before deploying to Red Hat OpenShift. Red Hat provided NVIDIA with the initial code for the GPU operator, and NVIDIA now maintains it.

Customers are currently using the GPU operator to help them implement and run GPU-accelerated workloads across a wide range of application types, including AI, machine learning, model training, and inferencing.

See how Red Hat’s expertise helped build critical evolutionary advancements into the GPU operator, allowing NVIDIA to optimize compute efficiency for its customers. Read our partner case study.
