It's not uncommon to see statements like this from technology companies. I couldn’t disagree more.
I think all of the above is what the C-levels of any corporation already take for granted - like switching on the lights.
Innovation is key
What decision makers really care about in today's enterprise world is innovation. It's about how to differentiate themselves. It's about getting to market first - and, of course, doing it efficiently. They care about disrupting, and not being disrupted.
They could borrow a page from Red Hat's book. Red Hat has disrupted its industry multiple times, and continues doing so. We were the first enterprise software company fully based on open source engineering models. We were first to introduce a subscription model at scale in our industry. And we have been instrumental in technology innovations like containers, DevOps platforms, and hybrid cloud management, to mention just a few.
But how have we done it?
Simple. It is thanks to our people, who we refer to as “associates”. It is thanks to our partners, to our clients, and especially thanks to the open source community.
Yes - that community, which we influence through the merit of our daily hard work and collaboration with them, which has rendered such great joint results.
Yes - that community, which works fully distributed across different geos and time zones, making it by far the largest R&D engine in the world, working around the clock.
Yes - that community, consisting of vast complementary skill sets, tackling complex problems together and building high quality projects, more so than any private R&D could even dream of.
And Yes - that community where diversity of cultures, age, interests... simply produces an ever increasing pool of ideas and debate that is the root of amazing innovations.
Open Source is more than a technology stack, it’s a better way of working.
The values of open source communities, such as collaboration, transparency, trust, meritocracy and inclusivity, are used to solve common challenges of distributed work, such as communication, knowledge sharing and accountability.
Since Red Hat first started 27 years ago, we have always applied these open source community values to our open culture and how we work - with communities, internally and with customers and partners. Distributed, remote work is in our DNA.
And we want to share the many advantages of this way of working with our customers and partners.
