With the recent release of Red Hat OpenStack Platform 8, the Red Hat Training and Certification team sat down with Pete Hnath and Randy Russell to discuss new training curriculum available for OpenStack. Here are some highlights from that conversation. (part two)

On the utility of OpenStack and the need for OpenStack skills:
Pete Hnath: One of the most important things to mention is that OpenStack Platform is built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux® and it is an evolving part of our long history of delivering enterprise IT platforms to customers.
Typically, this means that you are operating a high-degree of scale. You are not just deploying a server or even a cluster of servers to support an app, you are really talking deploying, very broadly, a platform that would support many, many, many apps across a variety of use cases. You are laying the next generation datacenter down. The real utility of OpenStack is to provide a business a platform for a ultimately a hybrid Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platform.
Randy Russell: When it comes to OpenStack skills, enterprises are faced with a build or buy decision: build talent from within, or acquire the talent externally. It is no secret that filling open requisitions for Cloud-related IT jobs can be difficult, costly and time-consuming.
