At the Red Hat Summit last month, we announced that we had expanded our relationship with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to offer Red Hat Enterprise Linux via Amazon EC2 on-demand with pay-as-you-go pricing. We announced that the offering would be available in the coming weeks and would provide customers with the ability to bring their own licenses to AWS and to quickly and easily purchase supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux via AWS. Today, we’re excited to announce that this option is now available via Amazon EC2 in all global regions where EC2 is available.
Amazon EC2 is a web service that provides highly available, secure, on-demand, resizable compute capacity in the cloud. It is designed to make web-scale computing easier for developers, commercial ISVs and enterprise IT organizations worldwide. Using the AWS management console, EC2 users can more quickly procure and provision EC2 instances preconfigured with supported Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and 6 and only pay for the hours that they consume.
The process to access Red Hat Enterprise Linux via Amazon EC2 on-demand today is straightforward for customers – once you log in to your AWS account, you can quickly and easily find Red Hat Enterprise Linux in the catalog for purchase and can get your images for use in just one step. Both Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 are available via this offering today. Support for the offering, for the first time in our partnership with Amazon on EC2, is being provided by both Red Hat and Amazon. Amazon will provide customers with Level 1 and 2 support with their certified engineers and Red Hat will provide Level 3 support.
