Hyperconverged Infrastructure

Phil Griffiths, Senior Solution Architect, Red Hat

HCI is in vogue with the IT industry. But what benefits does it bring and does a converged approach have any drawbacks? Can it be achieved without custom, bespoked solutions? Red Hat will offer advice, guidance and suggestions around existing technologies to achieve open-sourced, highly scalable solutions.

13:00 - Share Track

Operations for the Modern Data Centre

Chris Milsted, Principal Solution Architect, Red Hat

The approach to operations seems to have changed little in the recent past: Who has a monitoring solution that has not changed in 10 years? Who deploys operating systems using gold builds or similar? Who spends more time firefighting issues and not enough time preventing them before they occur? With businesses under more pressure to deliver innovation faster to market (sometimes referred to as the digital transformation), coupled with some new technology initiatives such as:

  • Adoption of new application delivery technologies such as containers.
  • Adoption of new application development techniques demanding continuous delivery.
  • New application deployment paradigms such as microservices - application health is now a composite problem across all services.
  • Public or Hybrid Cloud is now being consumed versus on-premise only solutions.

It is clear we need a new approach to operations for the modern datacentre. Starting with a single RHEL 7 server we will review the new monitoring, management and configuration tools available. Then we will look at scaling this and new approaches to monitoring, management and configuration for the hybrid cloud. We will then look at the future and insights and how, as we start deploying applications as microservices by leveraging containers, we see the future moving to predictive analytics.

Why Software Defined Storage Matters

Amrik Jalif, Storage Solutions, Red Hat

The way that enterprises think about storage is changing. In 2015 people talked about SDS and in 2016 it's happening. There are a number of factors driving this change, including OpenStack, Dev-ops, a greater reliance on rich media, active archives and compliance. This is not a full list of the factors in play as everyone’s requirements are different and we are seeing a diverse range of use cases. Moreover many Enterprises are looking to contain the increase in data storage costs and to get greater flexibility from the data that they store. This session will overview alternative approaches in data storage that increase flexibility, availability, whilst lowering cost.
