    2. If I complete a course is it the same as Certification in that area?

No, a Certificate of Completion is not the same as a Certification. If you complete the RHCE Standard Track Series in eLearning you will have completed training that can help you prepare for the RHCE Exam. To be certified as RHCE you must take and pass the RHCE Exam.

    3. Is there a student discount for eLearning?

No, at the present time the only discounts are the series pricing for multiple eLearning courses.

    4. Is the 10% off coupon that I received in my Red Hat Linux box product good toward the eLearning classes?

No, the coupon is good for certain Instructor Led Training (ILT) courses scheduled in classrooms at Red Hat facilities only.

    5. Are students allowed three months per class, or three months per series to take the eLearning courses?

The three months are for both the courses and the series, but we can extend your study period if necessary, in exceptional circumstances. A student must have completed at least 50% of the course before we will consider granting an extension.

    6. If I successfully complete all of the eLearning classes, then how well prepared will I be to take and pass the RHCE Exam?

Your readiness to take and pass the RHCE Exam depends on many factors, and is up to you to assess. Individual outcomes will vary.

The RHCE Standard Track in eLearning or ILT, is designed to cover the required Linux system administration skills tested in the RHCE Exam. Certain skills such as Networking Fundamentals and TCP/IP must be taken from other vendors. Red Hat clearly states that professional-level competence requires high quality training to be supplemented by hands-on experience and flight time.

Taking the RHCE Exam is itself a learning experience, so if you feel ready do not be afraid to attempt the Exam!

    7. When does the three month study time begin?

The three month study time begins as soon as you have completed your registration process.

    8. Can I pay for my eLearning class with a check?

Yes, you can pay for your eLearning classes with a check. You must mail your check to us and clearly indicate on the check the course or series you would like to take, and we will register you. You will receive your Student User ID and your Password via email. Mail the check to us at:

    Red Hat
    PO Box 951701
    Dallas, TX 75395-1701

    9. Does the three month study period allow me to go through the course from beginning to end one time, or can I study the course as much as I like during the three month period?

You can study the course as much as you like during the three month period.

    10. Do you offer discounts for students who have purchased multiple courses or series?

We do offer a 10% discount to students who take the series, but we do not offer a multiple course or series discount.

    11. Does Red Hat require prerequisites to take any of the eLearning courses?

Yes, for all levels beyond Introduction, there are prerequisites. prerequisites are recommendations of what you must know before beginning a particular learning unit. Each unit has prerequisites. It is up to all students to assess their readiness and their own level of knowledge and to enroll in the appropriate eLearning course for them. Networking Fundamentals and TCP/IP are prerequisites for the RHCE Standard track and must be taken from other vendors.

    12. Will I be given a test at the end of the eLearning course or series to measure my level of competency?

Yes, there is a test included in each eLearning course. You will submit the test to your Tutor via email.

    13. Is there a money back guarantee on the eLearning courses?

Yes, you may try any Red Hat eLearning course for 30 days absolutely risk-free. If within the 30 days you find that eLearning is not for you, we will refund the full cost of your tuition.

    14. Is there a limit on the number of times a student can take the tests during the three month period?

A student can take the quizzes as many times as he/she likes, but the test at the end of the chapters can only be taken one time. Once test answers are submitted, they are automatically scored, and locked.

    15. Is there any software required to take the eLearning classes?

No, our courses are delivered 100% over the internet, and there is no special software required. All you need is a current Java-enabled browser on a Windows, Macintosh, or Unix platform. To complete the exercises in this course you will need to access the lab feature using an SSH (Secure Shell) client. Flash from Macromedia, Inc, enhances the eLearning graphic environment, and can be downloaded for free.

    16. Do I have to have Linux on my computer to take the eLearning courses?

Having Red Hat Linux on your computer is not required to take Red Hat eLearning. But if you intend to develop professional-level skills and/or you want to prepare to pass the RHCE Exam, Red Hat strongly recommends that you obtain an Intel PC and install Red Hat Linux on it. Use the Linux machine solely for your exercises and to get hands-on experience. Use your other machine to take the eLearning courses. That way, whatever you do to your Linux machine will not affect the primary computer you rely on.

Once you become familiar with Linux and able to administer your own workstation you can use it as your primary computer, or do anything you want, since you will be in control!

    17. Is there a limit on the number of times a student can take the quizzes, or the test for a specific course or series during the three month period?

Quizzes can be taken as many times as you desire. But the test at the end of each eLearning course can be taken only once. When the test answers are submitted the test is automatically scored and locked.

    18. What are the requirements for successfully completing an eLearning course?

You have successfully completed an eLearning course when you have completed the course, and received 70% or more of the potential points available in the course.

    19. Will I receive any written materials for the eLearning classes?

No, but you can print from the browser.
