1. Topic:
A buffer overflow has been discovered in all releases of mopd-linux included in the 6.0, 6.1, and 6.2 releases of Powertools.
2. Problem description:
This vulnerability allows long file names to be sent from the client to the server, causing the buffer overflow.
The server also used filenames supplied from the client directly as a part of a format string in a syslog function call.
3. Bug IDs fixed: (see bugzilla for more information)

4. Relevant releases/architectures:
Red Hat Powertools 6.0 - i386, alpha, sparc
Red Hat Powertools 6.1 - i386, alpha, sparc
Red Hat Powertools 6.2 - i386, alpha, sparc
5. RPMs required:
Red Hat Powertools 6.2:
sparc:

alpha:

i386:

sources:

6. Solution:
First download and install the newest RPM errata. It will be needed to
properly install the umb-scheme package. See the following errata update
for more information on upgrading RPM: RHEA-2000:051-01
Then, for each RPM for your particular architecture, run:
rpm -Fvh [filename]
where filename is the name of the RPM.
7. Verification:

These packages are GPG signed by Red Hat, Inc. for security. Our key
is available at:
http://www.redhat.com/about/contact.html
You can verify each package with the following command:
rpm --checksig filename
If you only wish to verify that each package has not been corrupted or
tampered with, examine only the md5sum with the following command:
rpm --checksig --nogpg filename
Note that you need RPM >= 3.0 to check GnuPG keys.
