| White Paper: GNU C Library Compatibility Environment |
|
To take full advantage of features in version 2.2 of the Linux kernel, Red Hat Linux 6.0 is based on version 2.1 of the GNU C Library (glibc). Unfortunately, due to changes in glibc 2.1, programs compiled using Red Hat Linux 6.0 will not run on older versions of the operating system. Compatibility packages are included in Red Hat Linux 6.0 to allow developers to easily build programs which will work on Red Hat Linux 5.2. Together, these compatibility packages provide a cross compiling environment.
