Oracle and Red Hat Collaborate to Develop Enhanced Enterprise Capabilites for Red Hat Linux Advanced ServerJoint Development Efforts Satisfy Growing Demand From Enterprise Customers
REDWOOD SHORES, Calif., June 5, 2002Oracle Corp. (Nasdaq:ORCL), the world's largest enterprise software company, and Red Hat, Inc. (Nasdaq:RHAT), the world's premier open source and Linux provider, today announced their collaboration on the development and testing of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. Oracle also announced today Release 2 of Oracle9i Database and Application Server, and Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.7 have been certified on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. Through Oracle's own Linux research and development, collaboration with Red Hat, and interaction with its large customer community, Oracle is bringing its enterprise software expertise to Linux. As a result, Oracle and Red Hat have enhanced the capabilities of Red Hat Linux Advanced Server running Oracle9i Database to provide customers with a total solution for enterprise Linux deployments. Demand for high performance, information technology cost reduction and lower total cost of ownership provide a further catalyst for Oracle and Red Hat to work together to develop, test and improve Linux in the areas of performance, reliability, clustering and manageability, enabling the highest level of performance for enterprise applications running on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. Red Hat will also include the Oracle9i Database in its development testing methodology, ensuring early validation and integration. For the first time in Oracle's history, Oracle will also offer operating system frontline support for Red Hat Advanced Server. Oracle, in collaboration with Red Hat, will provide support for critical operating system issues to help ensure that joint customers' enterprise businesses enjoy reliable IT infrastructures. For additional support issues, Oracle and Red Hat will collaborate to determine the problem and solution, a commitment that underscores both companies confidence in Red Hat Linux for enterprise infrastructures (see accompanying release). "Red Hat and Oracle are collaborating on the technical enhancements, development and testing of the operating system as it relates to database and application performance. We will deliver a new customer support model, which will enable customers to adopt Oracle on Red Hat Linux Advanced Server as an enterprise class platform," said Paul Cormier, executive vice president of Engineering at Red Hat.
