Performance Analysis and Tuning of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Part 2

Larry Woodman, John Shakshober.

This is a 2 part presentation. We will explore the system performance analysis and tuning necessary to maximize the performance of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. We will put everything we discuss into practical uses of systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 3, 4 and 5. The presentations will focus on large systems that run the most common applications such as database servers, internet servers and various financial applications on a variety of the common hardware platforms. We will illustrate how to determine the system capacity for whatever hardware resources it includes. We will also show how to analyze the system performance using several performance analysis tools and techniques and willl focus on the tuning of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. We will discuss tuning parameters, how they affect the system running various workloads and contrast them between different versions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Finally, we will put everything we discussed into practical uses with several examples of performance analysis and tuning for benchmarks and real-world applications
