Unlocking the Power of RHN Satellite's API

This webinar gives you an overview of the application programing interface inside Red Hat® Network Satellite. We’ll also discuss the structure of the API and demonstrate several common API use cases.

More

Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite is an easy-to-use system management platform that provides lifecycle management for your growing infrastructure. Built on open standards, RHN Satellite provides powerful systems administration capabilities, like update management, configuration management, provisioning, and monitoring for all deployments.

The RHN Satellite application programming interface (API) provides a mechanism that lets programmers write programs to interact with RHN Satellite server. The API is used primarily for 2 reasons:

  • Automate repetitive commands via scriptin.

  • Interact with other application.

Many tasks that can be performed through RHN Satellite's web user interface can also be accomplished by the methods provided by the RHN API. The API extends the functionality of RHN Satellite because it lets scripts replace repetitive tasks that would be extremely difficult to do using the web interface. This added functionality facilitates automation and scalability within the enterprise.
