However file systems such as ext2 and ext3 are beginning to show their age as storage capacities continue to outstrip Moore's Law and outpace access time and interface bandwidth improvements. This presentation will begin with a discussion about the state of the file systems that are currently available in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. Anthony Green, Red Hat Principal Solutions Architect, will also highlight the expected storage challenges and detail the advancing file systems (e.g., ext4 and Btrfs) that are being developed to address these challenges.
