Red Hat Launches Red Hat Satellite 6 Beta
July 1, 2014
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Team
Today marks an exciting milestone for Red Hat Satellite as we announce the beta availability of Red Hat Satellite 6, directly following the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.
Red Hat Satellite has become the de facto management solution for managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux. As systems management continues to grow more complex, spanning the boundaries between Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) and Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) environments, automation and standard operating environments continue to be key for organizations adopting and deploying cloud-based solutions, as well as running their management solutions on bare metal. The Red Hat Satellite 6 beta is aimed to deliver customers more powerful capabilities than ever before to address these unique challenges.
What exactly are these new, powerful capabilities? Red Hat Satellite 6 beta offers improved system provisioning, configuration management, patch management, and content management—all while maintaining high scalability and security. Red Hat Satellite 6 is based on widely used open source solutions, including Puppet and Foreman, to help you automate the management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. These new capabilities enable you to:
- Discover, provision and upgrade your entire bare-metal infrastructure.
- Create and manage instances across private and public clouds.
- Integrate Puppet into your Satellite environment for fully-supported configuration management.
- Use improved methods for managing your content – both Red Hat Package Managers (RPMs) and Puppet modules.
- Federate the management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux – everything from provisioning, configuration, and content distribution and delivery.
The Red Hat Satellite 6 beta is also fully equipped to manage Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, as well as previous distributions of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
With today’s announcement, the Red Hat Satellite team invites Red Hat customers, partners and community users to download the Satellite 6 beta and provide feedback as you test its new features in your non-production environment.
