Raleigh
United States, June 26, 2001CD Edition provides low-cost alternative for experienced Linux users
Red Hat Europe (Nasdaq: RHAT), the leader in developing, deploying and managing open source solutions, announced today the availability of Red Hat Linux 7.1 CD Edition. CD Edition, which has been designed for experienced users, provides all the functionality needed to run a server or a personal workstation, at a fraction of the cost of competing software.
As with Red Hat Linux 7.1, the CD Edition includes the new 2.4 kernel with improved SMP support for superior performance on Intel multi-processor platforms. The software also delivers the same new configuration tools as in Red Hat Linux 7.1 that enable users to effortlessly set up and administer DNS, Web and print servers.
"Many Linux users want to buy the core software without paying for peripheral services that they won't use", said Colin Tenwick, VP and General Manager Red Hat EMEA. "Our lastest offering enables these users to buy Red Hat Linux 7.1 at a fantastic price point. The CD Edition contains the full version of Red Hat Linux 7.1software functionality along with a games CD and a documentation CD.
