Red Hat Enterprise Linux Enables Telefonica to Expand Services Without Expanding Costs

Telefonica Deutschland supplies businesses with full network services: narrow and broadband access, virtual private networks, integrated voice and data solutions, and voice over IP. With customer demand for full service server hosting, Telefonica needed to expand the service infrastructure.

"Our operations were built on Unix and Linux servers, and with our rapid expansion, we needed to look at cost-effective alternatives," said Michael Kutzner, Director Systems & Applications at Telefonica Deutschland. The introduction of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Network allowed Telefonica Deutschland to expand its services without expanding costs. "Our initial deployment of x86-based servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux demonstrated steady performance at 50% less cost," said Kutzner.

Red Hat Network was easily integrated into Telefonica Deutschland's existing server maintenance methods. In January 2004, Telefonica Deutschland became an early adopter of the new Red Hat Network Provisioning Module.

"We are now able to provision new systems quickly and reconfigure while systems are operating. This makes Red Hat Enterprise Linux even more of a value to our organization," said Kutzner.
