Red Hat Delivers Certified Open Source Stacks Online
RaleighUnited States, December 6, 2005
New certified stacks, available on Red Hat Network, simplify application development and testing with open source components such as Linux, Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL and Tomcat RALEIGH, NC- December 6, 2005 - Red Hat (NASDAQ: RHAT), the world's leading provider of open source to the enterprise, tod
Red Hat's Web Application Stack is for simple websites and applications, and includes support for the popular LAMP components (the Apache HTTP Server, MySQL database and PHP scripting language), on top of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Customers may also choose the PostgreSQL database, which is also available as an option with the Web Application Stack.
Java Web Application Stack: Red Hat's Java Web Application Stack is for more dynamic web applications, and includes support for all components of the Web Application Stack (LAMP + PostgreSQL), plus support for the Apache Tomcat Servlet and JSP container. Included with this stack are support and updates for key Java development libraries and tools: Apache Struts, Apache Axis, Spring, Hibernate, Lucene, Ant, Junit, Jython, Log4J and key XML libraries.
Enterprise Java Stack: The Red Hat Enterprise Java Stack includes support for all components of the Java Web Application Stack above, plus support for a full Java application server based on ObjectWeb's J2EE-certified JOnAS project (already available as Red Hat Application Server). Like the Java Web Application Stack, the Enterprise Java Stack includes support for key Java development libraries, as well as MySQL or PostgreSQL.
âeuroœFor the past few years, UBS has been using components of these stacks as a base for application development in our Linux environments. However cross-component integration was an ongoing issue,âeuro said Steve Russell, managing director, UBS Investment Bank. âeuroœRed Hat's move to certify and support full stacks integrated with the operating system better aligns them with our use of the technology. We applaud them for the initiative and anticipate it will bring needed maturity and manageability to the open source development platform.âeuro
Each Red Hat certified stack includes free access to Red Hat's Eclipse-based Developer Suite, and will be available as a layered subscription on top of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. As always, all Red Hat technology is available for free download for development at http://www.redhat.com/developers.
Pricing and Availability
The Red Hat certified stacks for dynamic web application development and deployment will be available beginning in the first calendar quarter of 2006 directly from Red Hat. Subscription pricing will start at $599 USD per server. For more information please visit http://www.redhat.com
