Red Hat Solutions Boost Performance and Reliability For Leading Energy Trading Company

SESCO Enterprises builds new internal infrastructure based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform

RALEIGH, N.C -

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that SESCO Enterprises, a leading electricity and natural gas trading company, has deployed Red Hat solutions including Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform to facilitate the creation of a high-performance infrastructure to support its rapid database growth. The company has since experienced cost-savings, flexiblity and heightened performance and reliability.

SESCO Enterprises was founded in 2002 by a group of financial management, energy operations and technology professionals and provides risk-reduction strategies that consistently result in large returns on investment for investors, stakeholders and shareholders. SESCO's founders and associates have more than 100 years of combined experiences in trading and risk management, covering the full range of energy markets, including power, natural gas, oil, refined products, coal and emissions.

SESCO needed to build a development infrastructure that combined high reliablity with ease of use in order to provide its traders with the most up-to-date information. The company wanted to gain more control over its server environment, increase processing speeds and facilitate development of SESCO's database programs. The solution also needed to be able to scale to provide support for future growth of the company. The database company that SESCO worked with in 2003 was already utlizing Red Hat solutions, making SESCO's choice to implement Red Hat solutions easy.

When we decided to move our database servers in-house, Red Hat was the natural choice. We needed a solution that ensured easy installation, excellent support and the highest availability possible. Our databases have to stay up at all times, and we knew Red Hat solutions would give us peace of mind, said Gene Meier, systems administrator for SESCO Enterprises. Today, twelve IBM servers with Intel dual-core processors run Red Hat Enterprise Linux for SESCO. One server runs the JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, which the company uses to automate processes and to support its transaction-driven messaging.

SESCO has experienced many benefits since deploying Red Hat solutions, including increased cost-savings, high levels of support, flexibility, ease of use and the reliability of a high-performance, scalable infrastructure. Using Red Hat and JBoss solutions, we've built a redundant, reliable infrastructure that minimizes downtime, provides failover capabilities, and keeps our traders up and running, said Meier. In our market, we can make or lose money in seconds. Red Hat support enables us to respond more quickly to changes in the market and gain a competive advantage.

SESCO's plans include a continued implementation of new Red Hat capabilities including virtualization and clustering in the future.
