Internet Service Provider selects full suite of Red Hat solutions for managed hosting solutions

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the worlds leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Host Europe, an Internet Service Provider (ISP) that delivers highly reliable Internet services to consumers and enterprises in Austria, Germany and Switzerland, has selected Red Hat for its managed hosting solutions. More than 25 percent of enterprises listed on the German DAX stock index use Host Europes services, known for their robustness. As it developed new managed hosting services, Host Europe discovered a stable operating system platform with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. In addition, the ISP uses Red Hat Global File System (GFS) and Red Hat High Availability Cluster Suite for storage virtualisation and high availability.

“We saw a huge demand in the market for highly available web applications at a reasonable price and with outstanding service capabilities”, said Patrick Pulvermüller, manager at Host Europe. “The only way for us to satisfy this demand was to rely on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Other platforms suffered from definite weaknesses regarding pricing or service, some lacked in both respects.

Starting with the evaluation period, Red Hats consultants delivered excellent results. They also managed to quickly solve some performance issues in the early phase of the project. Since then the system has been running flawlessly.”

Host Europes managed hosting offerings are based on a high availability solution, which uses the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system in combination with Red Hat Global File System (GFS) and Red Hat High Availability Cluster Suite. Now in the first phase of the project, Host Europe is running over 600 servers with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. The companys customers mainly use the managed services for highly available web applications, especially for e-commerce. Host Europe entrusts its own e-commerce and Web 2.0 video platform to the Red Hat solution. The ISP plans to more than double the size of the installation in the near future.

“Host Europe is a good example of what makes our open source offerings so compelling”, said Werner Knoblich, vice president of EMEA at Red Hat. “It is a combination of best-of-breed software solutions with high value and low costs on top of excellent professional support. We are proud to count Host Europe among our clients that rely on a Red Hat Open Source Architecture in order to provide their customers with the best possible services.”
