Red Hat Customers Showcase Their Technology Achievements in Fifth Annual Innovation Awards
BostonMay 2, 2011
Award Finalists are Recognized for Forging New Ground for Their Organizations with Red Hat and JBoss Solutions
Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the finalists in its fifth annual Red Hat and JBoss Innovation Awards. The award program is designed to recognize the outstanding use, innovation and extension of Red Hat's solutions by customers, partners and the open source community.
The Red Hat and JBoss Innovation Awards finalists are recognized in four separate categories; and a fifth category recognizes a finalist that is deploying a combined solution from Red Hat's platform and middleware portfolios. Today, Red Hat announces the nine leading organizations that are illustrating innovation within their technology programs, and will compete for the Red Hat Innovator of the Year and JBoss Innovator of the Year. These winners will be announced during a special awards ceremony at the Red Hat Summit and JBoss World on May 6, 2011 in Boston.
The 2011 Red Hat and JBoss Innovation Awards winners in the following categories include:
Red Hat: Santos Limited, www.santos.com, has been an Australian energy pioneer since 1954, and is one of the country’s leading gas producers with approximately 5,000 staff across its offices and field operations in Australia and Asia. Through the innovative use of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and TurboVNC/VirtualGL open source technologies, Santos has reduced the complexity of its UNIX environment. With Red Hat, Santos has experienced a boost in performance, lowered costs significantly, and saved power, all in one open source project.
JBoss: SNS Bank, www.snsbank.nl, is one of the top four Dutch financial institutions focusing on banking, mortgages, savings and investment products for retail clients and small and medium enterprises. The company set out to empower its online customers by fully automating its business processes. A strong combination of Red Hat services, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform and JBoss jBPM provided the foundation for a successful migration from SNS Bank’s existing business processes, which took place in traditional banking branch offices, to a fully automated, online e-banking experience. Due to this partnership and investment in this new strategy, SNS Bank achieved compelling business results, including a 40 percent decrease in operating costs and 20 percent gain in new customers.
Red Hat: DreamWorks LCC was formed in 1994 with the goal of producing high-quality entertainment. Today, DreamWorks Animation SKG, www.dreamworksanimation.com, prides itself on being on the leading edge of both creative artistry and technology. A powerful combination of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Enterprise MRG Grid, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform gives DreamWorks tools to achieve its goals of reducing proprietary grid middleware costs while integrating open source messaging and application middleware with its next-generation animation platform, while simultaneously positioning its infrastructure for adoption of cloud computing and beyond.
JBoss: Verizon Business, www.verizonbusiness.com, operates one of the most connected Internet backbone network for enterprise customers around the world. In early 2010, Verizon was looking to harden a relatively new element of its mission-critical Network Management System and its IMPACT application and implement a high-availability architecture that would support its required scalability and performance, improve up-time and provide better support to its operation systems. By implementing JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform, which includes JBoss jBPM and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, along with design and implementation professional services from Amentra, a Red Hat company, Verizon gained improvements in its IT internal customer service department. These solutions have also allowed the company to provide better customer service to its business customers.
Red Hat: InfinitiesSoft, www.infinitiessoft.com, was founded in 2003 and is located in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In addition to supplying Java EE and BPM solutions and services, InfinitiesSoft provides innovative solutions that address the cloud ecosystem. Because many organizations have quickly realized the cost savings and efficiency of an investment in IT, InfinitiesSoft set out to help its clients reduce costs and improve performance. InfinitiesSoft partnered with Red Hat to offer Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization and JBoss Enterprise Middleware to help build a total solution for its clients’ cloud ecosystem while maximizing their return on investment and reducing their total cost of ownership.
JBoss: New York & Company and Vizuri - New York & Company, www.nyandcompany.com, is a nationwide specialty retailer of women's fashion and accessories with over 400 associates at its headquarters in New York City, and approximately 7,500 part-time and full-time associates throughout its 551 retail locations. The retailer’s IT infrastructure needed a robust, scalable platform to support its key go-forward business initiatives. Therefore, New York & Company set out to have a fully integrated marketing and sales program that leveraged all fulfillment channels and increased revenue due to a unified view of inventory and ability to "save the sale." An intelligent Retail Brand HQ Integration Platform was the solution and JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform served as the integration hub allowing their systems to integrate and exchange information. New York & Company partnered with Vizuri, a Red Hat Premier Business Partner, to shape the business strategy and deliver technology innovation. Vizuri provided instrumental team members who delivered a robust architecture for a real-time retailing environment that supports continuous information flow and real-time execution.
Carved Out Costs
Red Hat: Nissan Motor Company, www.nissan-global.com, was founded in 1933 and is one of the largest car manufactures in the world with over 200,000 employees and $80 billion in revenue. With the launch of EV (Electric Vehicle) to the market, Nissan planned to introduce a new type of system services for supporting this new business. Setting out to make Linux its common platform and regain IT governance, Nissan selected Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform to simplify its IT infrastructure. With more agility and less cost, the combination of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform has played a vital role in the Nissan Global-IS Strategy while providing more flexibility, simplicity and efficiency.
JBoss: The Emirates Group, www.theemiratesgroup.com, comprising Emirates Airline, Dnata and subsidiary companies, is a major player in the global aviation, travel, tourism and leisure industries. Emirates Group Information Technology (EG-IT) is responsible for all facets of information technology and its role in supporting the Group’s daily global operations and long-term growth plans. EG-IT develops industry-leading solutions for financial management, cargo and logistics, passenger and airport solutions, process outsourcing and systems integration, made available to other carriers through its market-facing arm, Mercator. EG-IT used JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform as the basis for its development of a new Open Travel Platform (OTP). Built entirely on open source technologies, the platform facilitates the deployment of travel-related business systems, reusing core components and common interfaces, sharing infrastructure, and dramatically reducing both development costs and time to market for new applications and components.
Outstanding Open Source Architecture
Rancore Technologies, www.rancoretech.com, is a leading technology R&D firm focused on 4G telecom networks and services. Rancore is a privately held company and a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), a Fortune 500 firm and one of India's most valuable companies. Rancore set out to utilize open source technology to build a service delivery platform based on 4G standards. By leveraging open source solutions from Red Hat and JBoss, Rancore was able to achieve the solution capabilities with a small dedicated team of engineers. Poised to illustrate the success of open source on a large scale in the Indian telecom industry, this project demonstrates how a low-cost, high-throughput, mission-critical system can be built using open source technology.
