Overview
Education Payroll Limited manages payroll services for New Zealand’s 2,500 schools. To replace complex, time-consuming manual processing for 14,000 bi-weekly submissions, the organization created a digital payroll application called EdPay. It worked with local systems integrator Deloitte New Zealand to create a reliable, scalable foundation for EdPay using Red Hat technologies. The app now supports near-real-time status information and zero-downtime updates to enhance features and capabilities.
Administrators can go into their application, see their staff list, review details, and immediately get feedback on their submissions. EdPay has transformed the entire experience, with incredible improvements to visibility and usability.
Challenge
Modernize education payroll services
Education Payroll wanted to modernize its processes and supporting technology to provide timely, accurate payroll payments to New Zealand’s teachers and support staff. Every 2 weeks, the organization received more than 14,000 handwritten forms that had to be entered manually into the payroll system for processing. This process created complexity and introduced the risk of errors. Education Payroll decided to replace its manual, paper-based system with EdPay, a new digital application.
Solution
Adopt a cloud-native service foundation
Education Payroll chose to work with local systems integrator Deloitte New Zealand to deploy Red Hat OpenShift on premise as the foundation of EdPay. The organization also used Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform to help teams manage complex deployments and automate repetitive tasks. Deloitte New Zealand and Education Payroll worked closely with school administrators and principals to provide feedback on early releases of EdPay before launching to production.
