A Global Network Simplified: RHN Satellite Server & PMC-Sierra

Michael Yingbull, Senior Systems Analyst & Linux Specialist, PMC Sierra

PMC-Sierra, Inc is a fabless semiconductor design company, providing solutions in the areas of broadband communications and storage semiconductors. PMC has 9 corporate engineering offices across North America and overseas (including India, China, and Israel) supporting 700+ RHEL systems, varying in roles between desktop workstations, to HPC clusters, to infrastructure servers. PMC-Sierra needed a solution to simplify the management of its RHEL investment despite its diversity (both in role and location), and chose the RHN Satellite Server & Proxy solution.

This presentation will cover recommendations and best practices for use of RHN Satellite for multi-location enterprises, including discussion of supporting machines in different roles (desktops as well as servers, as well as HPC nodes). PMC's case study will be a backdrop, including coverage of our lessons learned including Solaris integration (supported feature of RHN Satellite). Presenting will be Michael Yingbull, Senior Systems Analyst & Linux Specialist with PMC Sierra.
