Red Hat Enterprise Linux Lifecycle Management - Best Practices using Red Hat Satellite

Todd Sanders, Software Engineering Director, Red Hat
Todd Warner, Product Manager (Satellite | Spacewalk), Red Hat

Red Hat Enterprise Linux is a key piece of your IT infrastructure, so it is critical that you have a proper lifecycle management process in place in order to manage your systems. An average Linux server requires more than simply applying security updates. From configuration changes, OS upgrades, and even complete re-purposing of hardware, proper server lifecycle management is crucial. Proper lifecycle management reduces error-prone processes and saves time by automating repetitive tasks.

During this lab you will work hands on with Red Hat Satellite to learn how to:

  • Clone channels for faster and easier patch management
  • Provision systems – create a golden master package profile using Cobbler and Kickstart
  • Logically divide a Red Hat Satellite server into separate organizations and share content between these organizations as you move packages from test to production
  • Automate tasks (e.g., running a report to find non-standard packages that are not part of the standard build profile) using Red Hat Satellite's API

3:50 - 5:50pm

Take Control of your JBoss Infrastructure with JBoss Operations Network

Noelle Jacusz, Greg Hinkle, Heiko Rupp, Prabhakar Gopalan

This hands-on test drive of the JBoss Operations Network (JBoss ON) product will introduce you to the advanced enterprise administration system for JBoss products. During the session, attendees will install the product to their own laptops and use key features of JBoss ON to administer, deploy, and monitor a JBoss Middleware Environment. You'll get interactive training with core developers on the latest features for cluster monitoring and group-oriented configuration and leave with a local install that you can take home for more testing and demonstrations.

Friday

Cloud Computing with Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Amazon EC2

Mike Ferris, Director of Product Strategy, Red Hat

Cloud Computing is fast becoming a core component of both web and enterprise IT infrastructure architectures. With Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Amazon EC2 you are able to experience both the dynamic scalability of the Amazon EC2 cloud combined with the enterprise stability and security of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Presented by Red Hat and sponsored by Amazon Web Services, this lab tutorial will walk participants through a complete lifecycle process of setting up Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Amazon EC2, accessing running images, and terminating those instances using both Red Hat and Amazon tools.
