Open, Software-Defined Storage: A Red Hat Storage overview

Speaker: Scott Clinton, Senior Director, Product Management and Product Marketing, Storage, Red Hat

Datacenter modernization is a priority for everyone working with virtualization, cloud, hybrid, and fabric architectures and technologies. Yet, traditional approaches to data management are like anchoring your modern speedboat with cement.

Enter software-defined storage, a new approach to storage that brings applications closer to data while adding agility and intelligence. Software-defined storage enables you to deploy storage how you need to, when you need to, and where you need to: in the cloud, in virtual or physical environments.

In this session, attendees will get a better understanding of software-defined storage and will leave the session knowing if they're ready to capitalize on it, forever changing their relationships with traditional storage vendors while capitalizing on today's economics.

Red Hat Storage Server & CommVault Simpana: Deploying cost-effective, scale-out backup solutions

Speaker: Craig Halliwell, Director, Strategic Alliances, CommVault

Red Hat and CommVault deliver scale-out backup storage efficiency. By collapsing compute, storage, and backup capabilities into a single scale-out solution with co-resident software, customers can run more agents and use more data streams without the need for additional hardware.

The combination of intelligent archiving and backup software plus an open, software-defined storage platform with a distributed architecture enables you to scale out capacity to petabytes of data. A single namespace (without a metadata server) and superior scale-out performance deliver a cost-effective alternative.

In this session, attendees will learn how to

  • Increase infrastructure performance by using multiple concurrent device-streams to all back-up storage nodes
  • Improve backup performance with source-side deduplication by 50% and network traffic by 90%
  • Reduce back-up windows over legacy storage solutions
  • Consolidate backup, archive, and reporting scans into a single process using Simpana OnePass with Red Hat Storage Server

OpenStack Storage Solutions: Selecting the right solution for your environment

Speaker: Greg Kleiman, Director, Storage Business Strategy, Red Hat

You have many choices as you architect and implement your OpenStack infrastructure and storage is a critical and foundational element of it. In this session, you'll learn more about those options and receive criteria for evaluating them for your unique OpenStack environment.

Attendees will also learn about how Red Hat Storage Server and Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform work together. These integrated solutions offer the innovation of the OpenStack and GlusterFS community projects, while also providing the security, stability, and enterprise-readiness of a platform built on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Shared Storage: Data availability across different clouds & traditional datacenters

Speaker: Tushar Katarki, Principal Product Manager, Red Hat

Enterprise IT infrastructure is diverging. because of the growing business needs associated with cloud deployments using OpenStack, traditional virtualized datacenters, and various public clouds. Because of this, data availability across these platforms is becoming a growing challenge for IT architects and administrators. Essential to addressing this challenge is to build upon an open and highly scalable storage platform.

In this session, attendees will learn how a distributed, scale-out storage platform (such as GlusterFS) can be used for data availability across clouds built with OpenStack, public clouds (such as AWS), and traditional datacenters. They will also better understand the business and technical data availability challenges and will be presented with solution architectures and use cases.

Red Hat Storage on the HP Proliant SL4540 Gen8 Server: Deploying software-defined storage for big data workloads

Speaker: Michael D St-Jean, Global Alliances, HP

To address the proliferation of unstructured data growth, Red Hat and HP are introducing an innovative solution that provides a cost-effective, scalable storage solution: Red Hat Storage Server on the HP ProLiant SL4500 Server.

HP and Red Hat provide a purpose-built, scale-out solution to meet your datacenter challenges of reducing space, energy, and deployment time to support scalable data growth quickly and easily. Together, Red Hat Storage Server and the HP ProLiant SL4500 Gen 8 Server take scalability to a new level of volume economics to effectively store and manage petabyte-scale data growth.

In this session, attendees will learn how to deploy Red Hat Storage Server on HP hardware for various workloads, including large file and object storage, cloud storage for service providers, and nearline archival use cases. Solution components, capacity, and sizing recommendations and reference configurations will also be discussed.
