Red Hat to acquire Amentra

Red Hat has acquired Amentra, a provider of systems integration services for SOA, business process management, systems development and enterprise data solutions.

What is being announced?

Red Hat has announced the acquisition of Amentra. Amentra will be run as an independent Red Hat company and in most respects will operate the same as it did prior to the acquisition.

What does Amentra provide? How is it different from Red Hat and JBoss services? Where will it fit in?

In February, live from JBoss World Orlando, Red Hat announced an initiative called Enterprise Acceleration. This initiative includes programs, products and services to accelerate corporate IT adoption of open source middleware reference architectures based on JBoss Enterprise Middleware. The acquisition of Amentra allows us to complement the JBoss Enterprise Middleware portfolio and strengthen our middleware services strategy. This customer solution-oriented approach allows us to focus on meeting enterprise needs and on service for the dynamics of SOA in enterprise environments. Amentra has specific technology and product expertise in SOA and JBoss Enterprise Middleware, as well as a mentoring curriculum. Amentra will work cooperatively and complement our other partners' efforts.

Why did Amentra agree to be acquired instead of staying independent and/or IPO?

Amentra's service focus complements Red Hat's product focus in the middleware market. Also, Amentra provides value through collaboration, which is at the heart of the open source software model. Both Amentra and Red Hat supply customers with value in their business and IT shops. And have rich partner ecosystems to facilitate collaboration for customer-oriented solutions.

Why did Red Hat acquire Amentra instead of becoming a partner?

Amentra is a certified JBoss systems integrator, so a partnership was already established. Red Hat and Amentra share some commercial partners. Red Hat will continue with its partnerships and Amentra will continue to work with its partners to provide value to customers through collaboration.

How will customers benefit from this acquisition?

Red Hat and Amentra existing customers will all continue to receive the industry-leading products and services that have made both companies strategic enterprise partners in the past. This acquisition will provide existing Red Hat customers with a world-class service offering through Amentra that will help accelerate enterprise projects including SOA, BPM, strategy and integration while accelerating the adoption of the JBoss Enterprise Middleware platform. With Amentra as an independent Red Hat company, customers will continue to receive all of the value-added benefits that they receive today with much greater depth and breadth of capabilities, geographic coverage and ability to further accelerate their adoption of industry-leading process and technology into their enterprises.
