For years, technology users had to follow a predictable and inflexible path when acquiring information technology. This time-intensive, high-risk process made it very difficult to understand what customers were acquiring until after the purchase order was signed. With the rise of Red Hat and FOSS, customers are gaining more control over the technology they use. And, with the growing popularity of software exchanges, customers are more empowered to assemble the necessary components to create an end-to-end software solution. In this presentation, Paul Oh, Director of Technology Alliances at SugarCRM, will discuss how FOSS and software exchanges are changing the software landscape. Paul will focus on the technology and economic implications of being able to "try-before-you-buy" and the disintermediation it is causing among proprietary software vendors.
