Red Hat® Enterprise Linux®: from its development to its evolution. Fedora. Kernel performance. Beta testing. Users and developers will be instructed on how to get the most out of Red Hat Enterprise Linux's key features.
Ever wish you could rant and rave directly to Red Hat's top engineering talent? Or tell an engineer the feature you think is missing from Red Hat Enterprise Linux? Here's your chance to take it straight to the top. Join our developing engineers, release planners, and product managers at this session as they face your rants and raves, and even take your questions. Here's your chance to let us know which features you're dying to have, and where Red Hat should take Enterprise Linux in the future.
Email your questions in advance to summit@redhat.com with "ENGINEERING PANEL" in the subject line.
Join Red Hat customers to discuss the performance gains and savings realized by implementing Red Hat. During this session, panel members will detail their individual success stories, from implementation to final deployment and value added. A question and answer session will follow the presentations.
This two-hour session will cover the capacity planning, system performance analysis, and tuning necessary to extract the maximum performance from systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, 3, and 2.1. With a focus on running the most common applications such as database and Internet servers and desktop applications on a variety of common hardware platforms, the session will illustrate how to determine the optimal system capacity. Larry Woodman and Doug Shakshober will demonstrate how to analyze system performance and determine that all of the subsystems and their associated hardware resources are running and performing up to design limits and capacities. Discover how to use performance analysis tools and techniques to verify that the system's processors, memory, network, and storage devices are performing at the expected level. Learn more about the tunability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux with several kernel tuning parameters and how they work and interact with the kernel, hardware, and applications running on the system.
The kernel is the foundation of every Red Hat Enterprise Linux system, and a core piece of Red Hat's open architecture. Virtualization is only the tip of the iceberg for tomorrow's Linux kernel. Kernel engineer Jeff Garzik will highlight new and updated Linux kernel features that are currently available for testing and evaluation and are likely inclusions for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 kernel. The seminar will outline improvements to the file system (VFS), memory management (VM), and block I/O subsystems, which increase performance and reliability. The discussion will also include NUMA and SMP changes for improved scalability, as well as security and TCP networking improvements to enhance the fast and safe Internet experience on Linux.
Join Jay Fenlason for a session tutorial on how to set-up Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 systems to operate in conjunction with Active Directory servers. Through step-by-step configurations and instructions, experience the complete sequence, ranging from initial configuration to domain establishment joining and trust designation. After the initial configuration is complete, see individual client system examples, including log-in and read/write file sharing. The session will conclude with highlights of upcoming features in the development of Samba-4.
Find out what's new and exciting in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux product line. Nick Carr and Daniel Riek will start with an overview of the latest new features and hardware support that have been added to the updates for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. Then its on to a sneak peek at the major feature enhancements planned for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 with an overview of the major themes and focus areas. There will also be time for audience feedback regarding individual interests for enhancements to upcoming releases.
Red Hat Network (RHN) Satellite is a systems management platform designed to provide complete life-cycle management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems. Learn more about the benefits of utilizing a Standard Operating Environment (SOE) for your corporate Red Hat Enterprise Linux infrastructure, and how to define, deploy, and manage your environment in an automated and intelligent way using RHN Satellite. Starting with an examination of the functionality within RHN Satellite to assemble a corporate os image, Todd Sanders will then demonstrate rolling out the os image to a group of servers. The session will also discuss both bare metal installs and repurposing, as well as using RHN Satellite's management capabilities to make ongoing updates and/or modifications to your SOE.
Join Bob Johnson to take a look at how Red Hat engineering is structured to effectively deliver a high-quality product. The case study reviews how Red Hat produces the Red Hat Enterprise Linux product line by looking at the key areas of project initiation, planning, execution, control, and closing. All areas of project and product management are demonstrated with real life examples taken from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4. The session will also take a look forward to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. Just a few of the topics covered will include the community, Fedora, the patch review cycle for the kernel, upstream acceptance, risk management, and product life.
Learn about recent advances in desktop technology and how to best put them to use. From the enterprise client to popular computing. Enhancements in OpenOffice.org to the the future of Linux Desktop. Where we've been, where we're going.
Discover the rapidly advancing state of the Linux desktop with Red Hat's desktop development team leader, Jonathan Blandford, and preview the new technologies in development for Red Hat's next-generation Linux desktop, Red Hat Desktop 5.
Red Hat X and Open GL team leader, Kevin E. Martin, will discuss the current state of 2D and 3D graphics development and the latest details on Red Hat's AIGLX project, which aims to create a smooth, intuitive Linux desktop experience. Improvements in hardware detection and configuration, as well as the benefits of recent graphics modularization efforts for developers, distributors, and end users will also be discussed.
