Getting Started

In order to subscribe and receive services for Red Hat enterprise software on Amazon EC2, you must have an account with both Red Hat and Amazon Web Services. If you have not already joined both services, you will be prompted to join during the subscription process below.

Note that all your usage for Red Hat Subscriptions will be billed by Amazon Payments. If you directly use any of the non-Red Hat AWS services, such as S3 or SQS, you will be charged separately for that usage. If you are accessing the service on behalf of your company, ensure that you are using an appropriate credit card and account with Amazon.

Subscribe to cloud computing services with Red Hat at Amazon Web Services:

  • If you are not already a member of Amazon Web Services, you will be asked to join.
  • Requires a credit card against which you will be charged for all fixed and variable charges.
  • Upon successful activation with Amazon, your account will have access to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, and/or Red Hat Enterprise MRG Grid Amazon EC2 Execute Node images (AMI's).
  • Once you purchase your subscription through Amazon Payments, you will be charged a fixed, monthly fee and usage based fees for your use of Red Hat software on Amazon EC2.

Step 2: Register your subscription with Red Hat

To receive access to Red Hat Network and Support Services from Red Hat, you must activate your subscription

  • Step 1 above will provide you with a unique activation code.
  • The last step of the purchase process will require you to log into Red Hat and entitle your account with the provided activation code. Follow the steps within the activation code to finalize registration process with Red Hat.
    • If you successfully purchased a subscription via Amazon Payments, but no longer have your activation key, you can generate a new key by visiting: http://amazon.com/activate

Step 3: Use your subscription

You are now able to instantiate servers and receive service from Red Hat.

You will need to configure your local machine for access to Amazon EC2. Please follow the steps within the Amazon EC2 Getting Started Guide.

Once you have purchased a subscription and configured your local machine, you may instantiate the AMIs for Red Hat Enterprise Linux, JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (with Red Hat Enterprise Linux), or Red Hat Enterprise MRG Grid Amazon EC2 Execute Node (with Red Hat Enterprise Linux).

  • Make sure you have included your Red Hat account number or Red Hat Network login.
