Network and application convergence are causing sweeping change in the communications industry. And increasing demands on providers. Red Hat delivers the tools that help carriers and service providers deliver next-generation communications: An infrastructure that cuts costs and increases performance. And a true open development platform that encourages rapid innovation.
With the 2007 acquisition of Mobicents, Red Hat added the world's only Open Source JSLEE to its middleware portfolio. JSLEE is designed to support event-driven applications that require high throughput, low latency, and continuous availability. For the telecommunications industry, JSLEE complements J2EE to enable the creation of standards-based applications that integrate the web and mobile experiences.
Mobicents is also the first Certified Open Source implemention of SIP Servlets 1.1 (JSR 289) - the open standard for runtime SIP application environment.
Media Server Control API (JSR 309) is the upcoming open standard for media server control that will complement JSLEE and SIP Servlets. The Mobicents team is participating in the definition of the standard and is frequently proof testing its viability in the open source user community.
Mobicents contributes five core technology assets that extend Red Hat's middleware portfolio and position Red Hat in the service delivery platform (SDP) market.
Through the combination of JBoss and Mobicents assets, Red Hat has created the JBoss Communications Platform for the telecommunications industry. JBCP can be used as a stand alone product or integrated into broader SDP offerings from leading network equipment providers (NEPs), and other telco industry suppliers.
Red Hat's JBCP provides all of the functionality of the proprietary alternatives at one-tenth of the cost and with no associated license fees or capital expenditures. Red Hat's cost structure and subscription model encourage broad adoption of JBCP by the telecommunications industry and the ecosystem of ISVs that are developing next-generation communications applications and services.
In addition, the open source development model is key for the future build-out of incremental SDP capabilities and application building blocks that will streamline application development. The JBCP/Mobicents community includes contributions from many Tier-1 NEPs and telcos globally.
Increasingly, companies are realizing that professional open source products, such as the JBoss Communications Platform, offer exceptional and innovative technology that are completely standards-based and that offer significantly improved total cost of ownership compared to commercial alternatives. The JBCP partner program is designed to streamline the process for ISVs to develop next generation communications services on JBCP and other Red Hat software.
