The Scope Alliance, founded in January 2006 by Alcatel, Ericsson, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, and Siemens, is an industry alliance created to drive the adoption of open source software and commodity hardware in carrier-grade environments. SCOPE members work with the leading NEPs and Carriers worldwide to define the next generation hardware and software requirements for open platforms in mission-critical Telecom environments.
As an active member of SCOPE, Red Hat is contributing to the requirements definition process for carrier-grade Linux, and serves as the interface with the open source development community to prioritize carrier-grade features, roadmaps and timelines. Red Hat also provides expertise and leadership in all matters related to the commercialization of open source software.
Participating in the SCOPE Alliance has allowed Red Hat to participate in a collaborative forum with leading NEP's and Telecom Ecosystem players. As a result of this collaboration, Telecom carriers can rest assured that the future direction of commercial open source will specifically target mission-critical and carrier-grade requirements.
