Red Hat, Inc. , publisher of the award-winning Red Hat Linux Operating System, today announced a partnership with Karin and Olof Kylander, founders of Frozenriver and authors of the GIMP User Manual to bring high-quality documentation to the GNU Image Manipulation Program, also known as GIMP. GIMP software is described by many as equivalent to Adobe's Photoshop.
Under the terms of this partnership, Frozenriver and Red Hat will work together to explore freely available graphic design applications, as well as work to make the GIMP User Manual as comprehensive and as complete as possible.
"We at Red Hat feel that Frozenriver has written the definitive book on the GIMP software," said Ed Bailey, Director of Documentation at Red Hat Software. "The GIMP is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, and it is a powerful tool for digital image authoring and manipulation. The combination of the GIMP and Frozenriver's user manual makes it possible to develop stunning graphics with Linux."
Karin Kylander agreed. "I have never regretted my choice of GIMP and Linux. GIMP covers all my graphic design needs and is the most versatile bitmap image manipulation program that I have ever tried," said Kylander. "GIMP and Linux is a truly professional choice. There are simply no alternatives that give me more power to design."
A freely available, open source graphics program comparable to Adobe's Photoshop is extremely important to the Linux OS, and as more applications are becoming available, Linux is quickly emerging as a truly viable OS option. As indicated by this partnership, both Red Hat and Frozenriver see useful applications and good, thorough documentation marking Linux as an enterprise-ready Operating System.
Founded in 1997, Frozenriver is based in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is a small scale digital graphic company working with graphics in education, advertising, web, and exhibitions.
Linux is the freely distributable, cooperatively-developed POSIX-based, multi-user, multi-tasking operating system used worldwide. Linux is used as a high value, fully-functional UNIX workstation for applications ranging from Internet Servers to reliable workgroup computing.
