Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today concluded the semi-finals of the regional Red Hat Challenge, which saw 1,500 student participants vying for the chance to compete in the grand finale in Beijing, China. After a week of face-to-face or virtual interviews with Red Hat Certified Instructors, 10 students from five countries made it to the finals.
“This year, we saw the highest number of student participants since the inception of the Red Hat Challenge,” said Sachin Shridhar, Director, Services, Red Hat Asia Pacific. “This demonstrates that students are more aware of open source and are keen to learn more about open source technologies.”
In the preliminary round, student participants were tested on over 20 topics, ranging from Red Hat Enterprise Linux System Administration to Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization. Following which, each semi-finalist had to resolve three different problem scenarios presented by a Red Hat Certified Instructor. The final round in Beijing will be an open book competition on virtualization.
“With open source serving as a foundation for cloud computing and virtualization being the first step to building a cloud, we feel that it is essential for our final round to be focused on this topic,” added Shridhar.
According to a recent survey by IDG Research Services1, 31 percent of APAC IT decisions makers are planning for cloud implementation in the next 12 months, and 65 percent are considering hybrid cloud solutions, evaluating or planning a combination of company-owned and third-party cloud services.
