Munich, Germany, 15th April 2005 – The Fedora Project, a Red-Hat-sponsored and community-supported open source project, today announced that the second Fedora User and Developer Conference (FUDCon) will take place at this year's Linux Tag in Karlsruhe, Germany from 22nd to 25th June, 2005. Following a gathering of the Fedora Community at the first FUDCon in Boston on 18 February, the aim of the June event is to achieve the most intense exchange of views possible between participants of the free Fedora Project. As well as FUDCon activities, Red Hat will also be presenting its latest Red Hat Enterprise Linux solutions on Stand D 62.
"Close co-operation with the Community has always been of fundamental importance for Red Hat. Red Hat is an open-source company through and through", says Paul Salazar, Director of Marketing EMEA at Red Hat. "We set up Fedora in 2003 as a free project, with the aim of developing a complete operating system for general use, consisting entirely of free software. The open development process takes place essentially on the Web but personal contact within the Community is very helpful for decision-making and in co-ordinating the different projects. FUDCon is the ideal platform for this; designed to address the Fedora Community, the event also caters for everyone else who is interested in the Fedora project."
FUDCon 2 at the Linux Tag will consist of two parts. On 22 and 23 June, workshops will be held for Fedora Community members with regards individual projects, at which important decisions about further developments will be debated. Then, on 24 and 25 June, FUDCon will offer a series of public lectures on topics associated with Fedora and free software as follows:
• As Red Hat representative, Mark Cox will deliver a keynote talk;
• Georg Grewe will be presenting the risks of an unrestrained patent policy for future technological development in Europe and around the world;
• Alasdair Kergon will be talking about the Logical Volume Manager 2;
• Chris Ailloon will be reporting the latest news about the webrowser Firefox in Fedora.
Up until 22 April, proposals for additional topics may be submitted. More information regarding FUDCon 2 and the "Call for Presentations" is available at http://fedoraproject.org/fudcon.
