Red Hat (NASDAQ: RHAT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions to the enterprise, today announced the opening of South American offices through the acquisition of two local operations of its Master Distributor. With Red Hat Brazil based in Sao Paulo and Red Hat Argentina in Buenos Aires, the company now has a strong, direct corporate presence in Latin America to provide regional support, training and sales activities, as well as localized offerings.
"These new operations in Brazil and Argentina deliver on Red Hat's commitment to continued global expansion into international markets," said Matthew Szulik, chairman and CEO, Red Hat. "There is a tremendous opportunity in Latin America where the public and private sectors are rapidly adopting open source technologies. We are thrilled to now have a direct presence in the market to both support the local open source communities and to help drive further momentum of open source adoption by customers and partners."
Julian Somodi, who has been a dedicated Red Hat partner for all of South America for almost two years, will now assume the role of General Manager for Red Hat South America. Somodi brings more than 20 years of technology experience to Red Hat and extensive experience in the region, working with companies such as Oracle and Apple Computer in the past.
Red Hat Brazil and Red Hat Argentina now provide greater training, administrative and sales support to customers in the region. In addition, two regional support centers, one in Buenos Aires and the other in Sao Paulo, provide integral customer service and broad technical support to the region.
Red Hat already enjoys an established presence in Latin America as evidenced by the success of large customers such as Serpro, Poder Judicial de Perú, Buenos Aires Ministry of Health, Bradesco and many others. The expansion of direct operations in the region will enable further development of direct customer relationships and broadened partner engagement.
"We have implemented new management and modernization systems at Poder Judicial de Perú in order to create the appropriate administrative and technological support for an administration with a modern, decentralized management," said Jorge Luis Flores Alcala, Networking and Communications Manager, Poder Judicial de Perú. "Red Hat helped us to face the challenge of interconnecting 26 national Justice Courts and obtain high performance and security with a great cost-benefit relation."
Partners in the region, including HP, IBM, Oracle, Dell, and Intel, are already embracing Red Hat's new direct operations.
"The significant number of joint projects developed over the years demonstrates the importance of the Red Hat alliance to HP," said Rodolfo Delmonte, Linux and Open Source Business Development Manager, HP Latin America. "Red Hat's direct presence in Argentina and Brazil, where HP has strong operations, brings new joint business opportunities to the region in terms of open source solutions."
"Red Hat is our international partner, and the presence of the company in Brazil is going to extend the opportunities of business in the country, as well as the service for the demands of our customers," said Haroldo Hoffmann, IBM Linux Executive, IBM Brazil.
"This initiative is very important to maintain the growth of the Latin American market," said Silvio Genesini, President, Oracle Brazil. "We have a strategic alliance with Red Hat worldwide as they deliver best-in-class solutions to the customers who need high performance and scalability with low cost."
"We look forward to continuing our work with Red Hat Brazil and Red Hat Argentina," said Raymundo Peixoto, Country Manager, Dell Brazil. "We have witnessed an increasing demand for our Dell PowerEdge Servers and Precision Workstations with Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Our partnership with Red Hat helps us to deliver even better choices and open source solutions to our customers in Latin America."
"Intel continues to break new ground in Latin America as the region emerges as a technology leader and a source of new, creative innovation," said Renato Sato, LAR District Manager, Global Software and Solutions, Intel. "We are thrilled to see companies like Red Hat expand their operations in the region and provide further support to the burgeoning Latin American market."
