Delivering an API-driven model to service 2.4 million registered vehicle and 2.65 million licensed drivers
The Department of Transport Ireland wanted to move away from its legacy architecture toward a services-oriented, API-driven model. Since the division is responsible for the National Vehicle and Driver File (NVDF)—a database containing details of all 2.4 million registered vehicles and 2.65 million licensed drivers in Ireland—it needed greater flexibility and more efficient development.
Through Version 1, a Red Hat partner, the DVCSD engaged Red Hat to assist in the development of a strategic roadmap that outlined an initial three-year plan to implement a new API services architecture. It adopted a suite of Red Hat products to help shape the safe and sustainable development of transport in Ireland. Red Hat® OpenShift®, Red Hat 3scale, and Red Hat’s single sign-on technology helped it fulfill this mission while supporting economic growth and social progress.

UK Department for Work and Pensions delivers critical assistance to citizens faster with Red Hat
The United Kingdom (UK)’s Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) provides critical financial assistance and other services to around 22 million citizens. The COVID-19 pandemic created a sudden, massive increase in state benefits applications. To respond to this rapid growth, UK DWP’s technology department, DWP Digital, sought to build, deliver, and scale its services and back-end systems faster. The department automated routine, manual processes for both staff and citizens with Red Hat® Ansible® Automation Platform.
Now, DWP Digital can deploy new services in minutes, enhanced with holistic data insight. Citizens can access information on a variety of services through a single, digital experience to get the critical assistance they need.

DAFM builds intelligent text analysis solution to protect farmers’ data
The Government of Ireland’s Department of Agriculture, Food, and the Marine (DAFM) processes grant applications submitted by farmers and their agents. However, incorrect document submissions by applicants led to data breaches in violation of the EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). DAFM worked with Red Hat and Version 1 Software to create SmartText, a machine learning (ML) text analysis platform that scans documents and images for sensitive information and prevents unauthorized access. With a foundation built using Red Hat container and management technology, DAFM can correctly categorize documents while protecting back-end systems and delivering new features faster.
Our research showed that we needed an enterprise Kubernetes platform to create our machine learning text analysis solution. Red Hat OpenShift was the clear leader in that market. Red Hat also provides the security and control we need as a government organization.
