Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the launch of its first annual Red Hat Innovation Awards to be presented at the Red Hat Summit in San Diego May 9-11. The Red Hat Innovation Awards recognize Red Hat users, customers and partners who stand out for improving processes, overcoming technology challenges and enhancing their bottom line through Red Hat and JBoss solutions. The awards provide an opportunity for Red Hat community members to share their individual stories and receive recognition for innovative and exemplary uses of Red Hat technologies.
The Red Hat Innovation Awards will consist of five categories including:
- Joint Red Hat/JBoss Deployment: Recognition of an innovative solution that leverages Red Hat and JBoss solutions together, or one that uses Red Hat Application Stack.
- Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) Implementation: Recognition of a solution that leverages SOA concepts to solve a business problem while improving system utilization and agility.
- Increased Return on Investment: Recognition of an innovative approach to drive out cost and achieve measurable ROI as a result of implementing a Red Hat solution. Results could include financial return or percentage increase in productivity, yield, efficiency, quality or uptime performance.
- Ecosystem: Red Hat's partner ecosystem offers customers a wide variety of choices for proven, industry-standard technology solutions to solve real-world business challenges. Companies will have the opportunity to explain how they leveraged these solutions to build innovative architectures based on open source.
- Emerging and Leading Edge Technologies: Recognition of companies who have implemented cutting-edge future technology found in Fedora, JBoss.org and other open source projects.
Submissions for each category will be judged by a panel of industry leaders and representatives including Infoworld's Matt Asay, Red Hat's Michael Tiemann, JBoss's Sacha Labourey and One Laptop Per Child's Chris Blizzard.
The submissions in all five Red Hat Innovation Awards categories will be judged on creativity, impact and presentation, said Michael Tiemann, President of the Open Source Initiative.
As judges, we will be looking for those companies that used Red Hat solutions in an inventive way, were able to use these solutions to overcome a company challenge and are truly seeing results in its business today. I am excited to explore the nominations and the many successes companies have enjoyed with Red Hat solutions.
One winner will be selected from each of the five categories and will be announced in mid-April. From these five category winners, one stand out will be chosen via online voting by the Red Hat community and will be named the 2007 Red Hat Innovator of the Year. Winners in all categories will be honored during the Red Hat Summit with various opportunities including one free admission, special invitations, industry recognition and more. The crowned Innovator of the Year will be named and recognized in a special awards ceremony at the Red Hat Summit and will receive a stipend and free passes to next year's conference.
Nominations for the Red Hat Innovation Awards are due by March 30, 2007.
