Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, announced today it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Melaka State Government and Abyres, one of Red Hat’s partners in Malyasia. This is the first-of-its-kind initiative in Melaka to help drive awareness for the adoption of open source technologies in the public sector.
Under the agreement, Red Hat will provide relevant training material under the Red Hat Academy curriculum to local universities, polytechnics and community colleges in the State of Melaka. 50 supported licenses for the Melaka State Open Source Center and 20 supported licenses for Universities, Polytechnics and Community Colleges located in the State of Melaka, Malaysia will also be provided for the purpose of teaching Red Hat Academy’s training content. Certification examinations are also made available at a discounted fee for students, lecturers and instructors of Universities and Polytechnics located in the State of Melaka.
The Open Source Center of Excellence by the Melaka State Government will provide the necessary facilities and resources for local students and lecturers to be trained in Linux, middleware and other open source technologies. The Center of Excellence expects to see 250 trainees over the next year with the goal of a 100% increase year-over-year increase in 2014. Abyres will also be supporting the Melaka State Government in organizing activities to drive open source awareness.
