Red Hat and Symantec to Deliver Bundled Secure Server Solutions

Partnership now offers certified Red Hat platforms that include Symantec Critical System Protection to small and medium-sized enterprises

RALEIGH, CAROLINE DU NORD -

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the worlds leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the availability of secure server bundles, in partnership with Symantec, targeted at helping small and medium-sized businesses secure server hosts. The solutions deliver a certified and tested package that offers customers the choice of Red Hat Enterprise Linux or the Red Hat Application Stack bundled with Symantec Critical System Protection. These solutions enable customers to implement a secure server complete with the reliable Linux and middleware platform from Red Hat for both pre-configured and custom configured behavior-based host protection and against application threats running on the server.

The bundled solutions are designed to lower overall implementation time, avoid costly hardware upgrades and be standards-based. Designed for simple integration with existing infrastructure, each solution is certified for reliability. Customers will be able to deploy a proactive security solution that addresses the security needs of small and medium-sized enterprises by protecting against both traditional threats and zero-day attacks and by providing security administrators with the reporting and auditing capabilities to ensure compliance with internal security policies.
“The inherent security advantages of Red Hat Enterprise Linux and the Application Stack, combined with Symantecs Critical System Protection, gives small and medium enterprises a great standards-based, secure foundation for a variety of application workloads”, said Todd Barr, Director of Enterprise Marketing.

Two Bundled Offerings

Red Hat and Symantec will offer two secure server solutions to customers: Secure Server Host and Secure Server Host for Applications.

The Secure Server Host solution brings together Symantec’s leading proactive, behavior-based host intrusion protection and detection technologies with the leading open source Linux platform for enterprise computing for servers with up to two processor sockets. This solution is designed to ensure host integrity and system compliance, as well as reduce the cost and complexity of data center environments.

The Secure Server Host for Applications solution brings together the same security technologies mentioned above with the Red Hat Application Stack, an open source suite needed by enterprises to run standard web and enterprise applications based on Java, LAMP or Linux. Designed for enterprise computing needs for servers with up to two processor sockets ensuring host integrity and system compliance, the solution also reduces the cost and complexity of data center environments.

“The combination of Symantec Critical System Protection with Red Hat on the servers ensures that enterprises can deploy mission-critical applications for their business infrastructure and know that it’s protected from misconfiguration, insider abuse and external attacks – even from zero-day vulnerability attacks”, said Brian Foster, senior director of product management, Symantec.

Red Hat and Symantec will leverage the “Red Hat on Intel” channel distribution model for delivery of the solutions starting in June 2007. The distribution for these bundled solutions will include existing Red Hat and Symantec channel partners which may not be part of the Red Hat-on-Intel channel. Both Red Hat and Symantec will independently offer associated updates, support and services.
