Connectix Teams with Red Hat for Linux on Macintosh; Introducing Connectix Virtual PC with Red Hat Linux, the easy-to-use Linux solution for Mac users

SAN MATEO, Californie -

Connectix® Corporation, makers of the best-selling and award-winning Virtual PC (VPC) family of products, today announced the signing of a new OEM agreement with Red Hat® Inc. (NasdaqNM:RHAT), the leading provider of open source Linux® operating system solutions. Under this agreement, Connectix will ship a new version of Virtual PC with Red Hat Linux pre-installed, bringing this popular version of Linux, which is currently available only on PCs, to the Mac users.

"The combination of Red Hat's open source expertise and Connectix's PC emulation technology gives Macintosh customers access to the power and control of open source Linux-based OSes," said Paul McNamura, director of Enterprise Market Unit, Red Hat, Inc. "Under this agreement, Macintosh users will be able to easily use a PC version of Red Hat, right on their Macs."

The OEM Partnership

With the Connectix/Red Hat partnership, Connectix expands its VPC user base while Red Hat opens up its Mac market. And, this agreement expands the capability of the Mac, allowing the users to combine the ease and power of the Mac and the Linux OS within one package. The benefits to the Mac users are numerous: get two-computers-in-one, eliminate installation and set-up headaches, easily switch between the two operating systems without having to re-boot and take advantage of Virtual PC's friendly user interface.

"With this partnership, we continue to build on our success as the leader in cross-platform compatibility and provide yet another new OS capability to the Mac platform. We are pleased to bring the leading brand name Linux to the Macintosh users in a pre-installed, easy-to-use Virtual PC solution. Now, Mac users can have Linux up and running in minutes while keeping their current Mac OS just a mouse click away," said Michael Loftus, vice president of Product Management, Connectix Corporation.

Connectix's Virtual PC Product Line

Connectix's Virtual PC product line bridges the compatibility gap between Mac and PC environments by allowing Mac users to run PC applications, access networks, and share files. Virtual PC 3.0 is currently available in three versions: with PC-DOS, with Windows 95 and with Windows 98 pre-installed. Two new versions, with Red Hat Linux and with Windows 2000, will begin shipping in March.

Connectix Corporation

Founded in 1988 and based in San Mateo, California, Connectix is a leader in low cost, high-performance compatibility software, originally entering the market with Virtual, a groundbreaking Macintosh-based product that provided virtual memory. The ever-popular RAM Doubler and Speed Doubler products were then launched in 1994 and 1995, respectively. In 1995, Connectix introduced the industry's first tethered digital camera, QuickCam, producing more than one million units before selling the hardware business to Logitech in September 1998. The company continues to develop innovative, award-winning products that allow computer users to use popular software and hardware products from a variety of different platforms. In 1999, Connectix again broke the platform barrier by launching Connectix Virtual Game Station which allows consumers to run many popular Sony® PlayStation® games on their personal computers.

Connectix remains focused on new technologies and products that meet the demands of an emerging multi-platform, internet-driven business environment. For more information on Virtual PC and other Connectix products, please visit their web site at http://www.connectix.com/.
