SEOUL – July 8, 2013 – Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world’s leading provider of open source solutions, today announced its open source vision, its business strategies and its plan to foster the open source ecosystem in Korea under the leadership of newly appointed general manager, Jay Hahm.
Red Hat, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, reported 45 consecutive quarters of revenue growth, according to recent Q1FY14 earning results. In 2012, Red Hat became the first open source company to achieve the billion dollar revenue milestone, demonstrating the value and vision of open source. The company has expanded its portfolio of open source products and services to include virtualization, cloud computing, Linux, middleware, and storage, serving as a strategic IT partner for enterprise customers.
“Red Hat is a leading connective hub in the global network of customers, partners, research and academic organizations, and open source communities. Bringing these innovative groups together fosters collaboration, and the result is technology that meets the needs of today’s computing environment more effectively than any one group could have created alone,” said Jay Hahm, general manager,Red Hat Korea. In addition, from the financial sector to government, telecommunications to media, logistics to retail, open source solutions are relied upon to power many of the IT workloads in business securely and reliably. Amid ever-changing IT environments, Red Hat is leveraging its open innovation development model and subscription business model to help define the next generation of the data center.
For the past 20 years, the Red Hat open source development model has produced high-performance, cost-effective solutions. Under the leadership of Hahm, Red Hat Korea plans to mirror the model for the local market, and to focus on creating a platform that will enable knowledge-sharing within the open source industry, expanding the open source base through academic collaborations, and cooperating with related organizations.
Secondly, with its extensive curriculum of over 30 training courses on Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat JBoss Middleware, Red Hat Korea will explore opportunities to collaborate with local universities and institutes of higher learning to support training in open source technology.
Finally, Red Hat Korea aims to strengthen collaboration with open source-related organizations and associations to energize local open source communities.
“Our focus is on innovation and end-user value through open source software, which delivers interoperability and flexibility. Based on our open source technologies and solutions, we will work harder to expand the Korean open source ecosystem,” continued Jay Hahm. “I hope that creating a communication channel for opinion leaders and educational programs for college students will help bolster the local open source market.”
Founded in 2002, Red Hat Korea serves a broad range of customers, including organizations in the financial, telecommunications, and public sectors. Its key customers include POSCO ICT, SK Telecom, and Korea Federation of Banks. Red Hat Korea launched the Red Hat Certification Program in January 2007, including Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA), the most senior system administration credential, Red Hat Certified Technician (RHCT), and Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE).
