Overview

Join the Security Symposium, where cybersecurity professionals can learn and network with Red Hat® security experts, partners, and industry peers to solve IT security issues together as a community.

The Security Symposium is a half-day event with industry experts where attendees can discuss hybrid cloud security challenges organizations face and solutions to tackle these challenges.

Why attend

Security teams find it challenging to keep up with the complexity of changing risks, compliance requirements, tools, and architectural changes introduced by new technologies such as containers, Kubernetes, software-defined infrastructure, and cloud technologies. As traditional infrastructure evolves to a mix of bare-metal, virtual, cloud, and container environments, discover how you can maintain security, governance, and compliance, while reducing risk.

Session abstracts

Keynote: Tackling security in the world of containers, hybrid cloud, and DevSecOps

Presenter: Zak Berrie

Abstract: Security teams are increasingly finding it challenging to keep up with the changing risks, compliance requirements, tools, and architectural changes introduced by new technologies - such as containers, Kubernetes, software-defined infrastructure, and cloud technologies. As traditional infrastructure evolves to a mix of bare-metal, virtual, cloud, and container environments, how do you approach security, governance, compliance, and reduce risk amid this growing complexity?

Traditional perimeter-based network security does not work in this new world of containers and hybrid cloud. Security teams must rethink their approach to security with automation and DevSecOps, where security is built in, continuously addressed, and continuously monitored across the entire application life cycle, infrastructure life cycle, and supply chain.

In this keynote, we'll discuss some prescriptive steps you can take to tackle security successfully and how Red Hat can help.

Data security in hybrid cloud

Presenters: Rahul Vijayan, Senior Principal Technical Product Manager, Red Hat APAC and Steven Ellis

Abstract: Data security, from secure foundation provided by Red Hat Enterprise Linux® which Red Hat storage is built on top of to provide data security for hybrid cloud across the stack. You will walk away understanding the challenges of data security in the public cloud and possible solutions to those challenges.

Securing containers and Kubernetes in hybrid cloud

Presenter: Hwee Ming

Abstract: How to secure containers and Kubernetes in hybrid cloud to build, run, and deploy containerized applications securely across the entire container life cycle.

How managed services equals managed security

Presenter: Paul Whiten

Abstract: Digital transformation is imperative to businesses, and the public cloud has embedded itself in the mainstream of enterprise IT. Early adopters of public cloud had to (and in some cases even wanted to) build everything from the ground up. This approach faces challenges through increased complexity, technical debt, and security concerns.

Today, however, organizations look to do things differently. They want an accelerated on-ramp to the benefits that public cloud offers, including IT optimization and flexibility, as well as faster time-to-market for new applications. All of this needs to be achieved in a secure and scalable manner.

In this session we will cover Red Hat’s managed services offerings for OpenShift® in the public cloud and how they meet industry best practices for security. Let Red Hat manage the operational complexity of Kubernetes and containers, so that you can focus on securely building, running, and scaling applications across clouds to drive business outcomes.

Maintaining compliance and governance in hybrid cloud

Presenter: Nicholas Chia, Senior Principal Product Marketing Manager, Red Hat APAC

Abstract: How to maintain compliance and governance in hybrid cloud with real-life examples from OpenShift Dedicated SRE security and cloud compliance teams.

Zak Berrie

Security Solution Specialist

Since 2006, Red Hat has employed Zak in a variety of roles, including as a Trainer, Solution Architect, and Solution Sales Specialist. During his decade as a Solution Architect covering strategic accounts in the Western US, Zak rose to the level of Principal Solution Architect. Since 2018, Zak has covered Red Hat’s Storage, Application Development, and Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning portfolios. This experience has positioned Zak to communicate how Red Hat’s security solutions can reduce the risk associated with accelerated application delivery. Zak relocated to Singapore in 2021

Rahul Vijayan

Senior Principal Technical Product Manager, Red Hat APAC

Rahul Vijayan is a product manager who helps customers identify and solve problems using next generation technologies. Rahul works on optimizing Red Hat solutions and products that matter to the current market. He has enjoyed working various roles in IT—including developer, engineer, delivery, and presales. Rahul is most satisfied solving business challenges for customers and helping them get to the next level.

Steven Ellis

Senior Principal Product Manager

Steve's is an Open Source Technology Evangelist in the APAC Office of Technology team at Red Hat. In the last 25+ years he worked as a developer and transitioned to an infrastructure and operations architect across a broad range of Unix and Linux technologies. For most of that period he’s used Open Source technologies to solve business problems, and on many occasions recover lost data. He freely admits that there have been occasions of data loss, and recovery during that career and really hopes some of the session attendees can avoid his past mis-steps.

In his spare time he still hacks on the MythTV project and debugs Open Source on random bits of hardware that really should know better.

Hwee Ming

Senior Principal Product Manager, Cloud Infrastructure

Hwee Ming is a product manager with Red Hat focusing on Cloud Infrastructure. She is based in Singapore and supports the APJ region. She works with customers across the region helping them leverage Red Hat Technology to build hybrid cloud solution across physical, virtualization and containerization platform. She has also been working with service providers, adopting these technologies for Network Function Virtualization (NFV) and has worked on multiple NFV proof-of-concept and deployments across the regions. She has also been helping network equipment provider in APAC with the certification of their VNF on Red Hat Openstack platform as well as the supporting them with the joint solution with Red Hat. Hwee Ming has also been working with managed cloud provider to build solution based on Red Hat’s cloud infrastructure technologist. Before Red Hat, Hwee Ming worked with HP and she has over 15 year experience in the industry working on OSS, Next Generation Intelligent networks, Converged networks, NOC consolidation and regulatory compliance.
