Alan Cox, "Kernel Hacker" at Red Hat, known throughout the open source community as one of the industry's most influential programmers, has been named a candidate for the worldwide Technology Review 100 (TR100). The TR100 is a unique listing of the world's top 100 young innovators published by Technology Review, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's (MIT) award-winning publication. Cox was singled out as an individual whose technical achievements for Red Hat and for the Linux industry demonstrate promise to impact technology in the 21st century.
In the June 2002 issue, Technology Review will publish a special report profiling 100 of the world's top young innovators under age 35. In addition, each finalist will be recognized at an exclusive biennial conference and awards program at MIT, where the "Innovator of the Year" award will be presented. An elite panel of international judges comprised of CEOs, inventors and two Nobel laureates will determine the final TR100 listing.
Individuals named to the TR100 are pioneers of technology and business who have made innovations in such industries as air traffic control, oil exploration, electric power, automated stock trading, advanced medical diagnostics, bioengineered drugs, wireless communications, broadband Internet, nanotechnology, robotics, computer crime investigation and hazardous-waste disposal.
